At the height of the Cold War, the young and beautiful Smith twins--blond-haired Sue and dark-haired Sally--are a dynamic and devastating duo who share a thirst for adventure and the wherewithal to triumph over danger.
These two nurses with special training volunteer for hazardous missions of mercy with the Emergency Corps rescue team, and often find themselves summoned at a moment's notice from their staid hospital jobs at Morse Memorial Center in the Midwest, perhaps to provide needed medical care for refugees from Communist regimes, or to help evacuate a casualty on a treacherous Alaskan mountainside, or to assist in a children's clinic in war-torn Vietnam.
Whatever the risks, it's all in a day's work for these two selfless and intrepid young women, who never seem to have a hair out of place, even when they're working in a sweltering jungle or parachuting into a danger zone.
Despite their penchant for fast-paced, thrilling adventures, the courageous pair, the writers hasten to assure us, are "dedicated to their jobs but essentially young and pretty girls, unwittingly breaking hearts wherever their duty takes them."
In a Charlton Comics name switch, Sue and Sally Smith, Flying Nurses had been previously titled My Secret Life. As was the pattern for the Charlton nurse comics, the issues also included other stories of love and romance without continuing characters.
