O: Orchard to Owens
Orchard, Dr.
Other physicians are baffled by the mysterious illness of little Toby Demarest, but not Dr. Orchard, an up-and-coming local doctor. Short, plump, and self-assured, Dr. Orchard offers only vague and general information when Cherry inquires about Toby's treatment, and she becomes suspicious when Toby's improvement coincides with the theft of an experimental drug from the veterans' hospital (Veterans' Nurse).
Owens, Scott
A concert pianist with a heart condition, Scott Owens is thin, almost gaunt, with a kind, gentle face. Frail, oversensitive, and tactless but kind, he is a genius with little understanding of the world beyond his music. Cherry becomes his resident private duty nurse, accompanying him and his sister on a concert tour. When he is targeted by a blackmailer, Cherry wonders: Can a man like this really have an ugly secret buried in his past? (Private Duty Nurse).
