From a small town in New York State, young and dedicated nurse Laura Blake joins the Army Nurse Corps to serve her country as a "ministering angel to the U.S. armed forces in action," starring in a short-lived wartime series of three books about "a girl who was at once a nurse, a patriot, and a woman in love."

Serving with the Army Nurse Corps, Laura's stationed in New Guinea, where her soldier fiance, now a pilot, has also been transferred. When she suspects a doctor is feeding information to the enemy, she pretends to be in love with him so she can ferret out the truth--but her deception endangers her relationship with her fiance.
William Starret was the pseudonym of Marshall McClintock, who, as Gregory Duncan, also wrote some volumes in the World War II-era Fighters for Freedom series.
